Crunches, Sit Ups and Planks
Crunches or sit-ups can be beneficial for loading and strengthening the midline connective tissue (the linea alba) and reducing a diastasis gap - provided that they are performed correctly ie the core muscles are are recruiting and engaging effectively. And knowing whether they are being performed correctly may in the early stages at least, need hands on expert advice from a suitably qualified practitioner.
If not performed correctly, the movement won't be beneficial, and for this reason you won't find crunches or sit ups included in the MUTU System online program. Instead we teach you to understand core engagement and how it feels first. You can read more about this here.
When can I plank again..? Is a question mamas also ask us too... again it's not a case of never, - if you’re stable, strong, supported and functional when doing it, it’s probably ok. But.. if you notice any warning signs, leaking, doming, pooching or pain then it's probably not.. Check out "When Am I Ready to Plank?"
